This is a knitted piece I made for an art show called Alvar, organized by the Department of Illumination in 2022. It was displayed on a fainting couch under a shade tent and people were invited to lie down on the blanket.

What’s an Alvar?

'Some of Earth’s rarest ecosystems, Alvars are hidden treasures of rich biodiversity right here in Prince Edward County, tucked into small pockets of exposed ancient limestone along the South Shore. Alvars are small but remarkably resistant and hyper-diverse habitats in extreme environments (wet and cool in the spring and bone dry by August) and they are home to more than 1000 documented species, including globally rare plants, songbirds, butterflies, dragonflies, salamanders and frogs, all uniquely adapted to these unusual conditions- a rich legacy of natural heritage and essential to protect for future generations.'
